Marriott International will be acquiring global lifestyle hotel brand, citizenM, for a reported $355 million.
The agreement will add citizenM's 36 hotels into the Marriott Bonvoy portfolio, along with the brand's three new builds currently under construction. citizenM is a tech- and art-forward hotel brand with hotels in twenty cities across Europe, the U.S. and Asia Pacific. Many of the hotels offer rooftop decks, meeting rooms and collaborative workspaces to satisfy both business and leisure travelers.
The acquisition is subject to U.S. regulatory approval, so there is no official date for when the purchase will be finalized. Marriott anticipates the transaction will be completed sometime this year.
"I am excited about citizenM's future with Marriott International. citizenM was created for frequent travelers, and Marriott's distribution capabilities will allow us to welcome new modern guests," said the CEO of citizenM, Lennert de Jong. "With the strength of Marriott's development engine, we look forward to the prospect of many additional citizenM properties in new destinations around the world. We will continue to own our real estate and operate all our hotels. This relationship will allow us to work together to maximize returns."
